I had been waiting forever for YSL to come out with a waterproof black version of their Volume Effet Faux Cils mascara, so when I saw it show up on Sephora.com, I had to purchase it. Despite the negative experiences I’ve had with most high-end mascaras, I thought this could be the one. Unfortunately, this is a mascara that requires a lot of post-application work (i.e. I really have to spend time to separate my lashes with a lash comb afterwards). And even then, my lashes end up with an unattractive uneven and thick texture. From far away it looks great, but close-up, it looks like I really wanted to glob on the mascara.

On the bright side, this, like most waterproof mascaras, does hold a curl well. The color is a very pigmented jet black. The brush is skinnier and more rigid than the original/non-waterproof Faux Cils. This does offer a nice amount of volume and decent length, but at the cost of definition.

My HG is still Maybelline’s Full & Soft in waterproof, and it goes for about 1/4 the price of the YSL one. I have no idea why I always have bad experiences with the pricier mascaras — they just love to clump on me. Or maybe I just personally prefer soft, fluffy, clean-volume looking lashes compared to really voluminous dark lashes?

Lunch at After Osha. This place is definitely different from the other Osha Thai Restaurants in that After Osha is a grab-and-go restaurant. The portions are huge, but the ordering is kind of silly. First you’re asked to select the kind of rice you want (white, brown, fried rice, curry rice, etc). Okay, that’s normal. Then you’ll allowed to select an unlimited combination of items. But that’s where it gets weird. They don’t ask how many items you want to begin with, instead, they just give you a lot of the first item then give less and less of the sequential items.

But the food is good and there’s a decent amount of business so that the food stays fresh. This place actually reminds me a lot of the food at Coriander.

Don’t forget to check in on Yelp to get a free (small) Thai iced tea.
